On August 1st, Steve Eustice, a dedicated father and handball player, suffered a life threatening staph infection in both of his knee replacements. In addition, he had a fall and fractured his L5 vertebrae. He has had to have surgery on both of his knees and back. His right knee replacement had to be deconstructed, and an antibacterial spacer was inserted. Currently, he has no right knee joint. Steve has been in the Prestige Rehabilitation Center at Reedwood, in SE Portland, ever since. Some bacteria remains in his right knee. His left knee joint is now free of bacteria. Recently, he has been able to stand and put some weight on his legs. When Steve is bacteria free, he will need to have a new knee replacement. These unforeseeable events caused devastating financial consequences, and I am asking all of our friends in the handball community to come together to help him get back on his feet.
Steve Eustice is a beloved member of the handball community in Portland, Oregon. He began playing handball at Montana State University, at the age of 20, and he has been part of the handball community for 45 years. He started organizing Handball on Sunday mornings, at the Lloyd Athletic Club, a few years ago, and it has been a great success.
Steve has some immediate financial needs. His insurance funding for the rehab center just ran out yesterday. When he leaves the center, he will owe approximately $3,000. He also must come up with 3 months of house payments in order to keep his home. He is in the process of applying for disability. Due to his age and health issues, his prospects for future employment do not look good at this time, although he is very eager to get better and work. $10,000 would go a long way to helping Steve get back on his feet.
Steve spent many years as a single parent of two boys, Chris and Ben, making family a priority. He has two Masters Degrees.
Steve is humbled and grateful for the support of his friends and community, in which he has always made a priority. Anything that you donate will help. Please share and help spread the word!
Thank you,
