Hello, we are Algie and Alyssa Copeland. We're a couple that just had our first baby, Cosima. Currently we are facing eviction.
We've been living off of Algie's pay for the majority of the pregnancy due to Alyssa suffering from severe depression and anxiety which left her unable to work.
Unfortunately, it hasn't been enough to cover all our expenses.
We've wanted to apply for rental assistance and have been encouraged to do so by our landlord. He looked into programs available, gave us rent receipts and a Notice to Pay (Last step before formal eviction from Magistrate), but not the only other item we needed in order to apply for assistance. A lease.
Our landlord refuses to provide us with a current lease. We've been asking for a lease since March of 2016 to provide to Public Assistance. Our last lease was signed in 2013 and expired in 2014. We've had two rent increases since then, but no new lease.
We are four months behind on our rent. We have no one we could borrow the money from and our main concern is for our daughter.
We need this money to catch up on the rent and avoid eviction, provide a home for our daughter and give us a little time for Alyssa to find a job and line up a daycare for Cosima once she's gotten her immunizations.
We really need the full amount by September 5th, but half by August 23rd to prevent formal eviction proceedings.
This would mean the world to us to be able to be sure that our daughter has a home and not worry that we will be separated and putting her at risk.
