Lauren's cancer treatment fund
Spende geschützt
Hi everyone,
As many of you will know, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and, despite expert care, I found out 9 months ago that it had sadly spread to other parts of my body - lungs, liver, skin and bones.
As many of you will also know, I am a fighter and don't give up on anything easily! I have a lot to live for - in particular my wonderful husband, Caleb, my 3 fantastic children, Ashlyn, Tristan and Orla, as well as my incredibly loving and supportive parents and close family. As a result, I am determined to try every treatment that could possibly help, even though I know I can't be cured.
I have already tried many treatments including surgery, radiotherapy, conventional chemotherapy and drugs trials. Whilst some have been successful, they have all unfortunately stopped being effective relatively fast due to the aggressive nature of my disease. Sadly we are running out of options and I now only have a couple of conventional chemotherapy drugs left to try.
I would love to be able to try a new experimental drugs treatment (involving a combination of immunotherapy and platinum chemotherapy), which is believed to be very promising in the fight to cure cancer. However, unfortunately I am not eligible to join a trial, nor will my health insurance pay for it. We would therefore need to fund this ourselves at a cost of approximately £8,000 every 3 weeks, for a minimum of 12 weeks (and considerably longer if it works). I'm sure you will appreciate that this is going to be expensive.
In the hope of raising some funds which will help me to access this treatment, I am aiming to walk approximately 5 miles through London on Thursday 7 July with friends and colleagues. Whilst this distance may not seem far to some of you, due to my health it will be a considerable challenge but one which I am determined to complete!
I will be joined by:
- a team of my work colleagues from my current accountancy firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers;
- a team of my ex-work colleagues from my previous law firm, Linklaters;
- a team of teachers at my children's school, The Rowans School; and
- some of my family, including my children.
I am incredibly appreciative of everyone who has volunteered to walk with me.
On behalf of all those walking, I would be extremely grateful if you would consider sponsoring us. Even the smallest amount would contribute to potentially extending the time I have with my family and friends.
In the event that we are unable to use all of the funds raised for my treatment, we would propose to make a donation to a charity supporting further research into triple negative breast cancer.
Thank you for reading this, and for your support.
Lauren
