UPDATE

For those who are new followers, Reef and Mahala Fahey wanted to do something more to support their little brother Koa who has T21, Down Syndrome. They saw that starting school and overcoming some obstacles, although entirely possible for him, were just that bit harder and they wanted to come up with some ways of making it easier for him and others with T21.

Initially Reef and Mahala also wanted to share, just what it is like having a brother with Down Syndrome and just how ‘normal’ our lives are. Reef wanted to learn to ski so he could participate in ‘Ski for Life’ 2022 (another fantastic cause) and decided to use his learning and practising as a way to create awareness and raise money for both T21 and Ski for Life. www.skiforlife.com.au Reef managed to smash this goal in March 2022 and he and Mahala are continuing their campaign to drive change.

Currently they are focused on raising awareness and making sure people know just how normal having a sibling with Down Syndrom is.

All money raised at the moment is going towards a series of short videos they are looking to complete and release into the school / social setting on World Down Syndrome Day in 2023.

“This year I will be skiing 213 kms before the 21st of the 3rd (March) 2022 which is World Down Syndrome Day.

I’ll share my story and adventure on Instagram and YouTube along the way. 

I am hoping by doing this I can create awareness for Down syndrome and Ski for Life and raise money which will be spilt between the two causes. 

I’m doing this because I have an awesome little brother with Down Syndrome and so I can participate in Ski for Life in 2022 with my Dad and some friends. I have never skied before this year so it will give me practice too!!!”

Just a quick note from me, Reef’s very proud Dad, Mark. 

I just wanted to let you know that Reef has his whole family behind him. His parents, Bethany and I, will be here to ensure that he dots the i’s and crosses the t’s in the background along the way. This is 100% Reef’s idea and what a great idea it is! 

As I am sure you can appreciate, T21 (Down Syndrome) is close to our heart and we love the fact Reef is making a difference.

This journey all started because Reef desperately wants to learn how to ski so we can enter a team together in the Ski For Life event in 2022 along with friends. 

Reef intends to donate 50% of all funds raised to Ski For Life with the other 50% to be donated to charities/causes related to raising awareness for kids with Down Syndrome like Our little Koa.
