Hello! My name is Galiana Loorem and I have been invited to participate in the Global Youth Leadership Conference, and would love your help to be able to attend!
The program takes place in the attendees choice of the United States, Europe or China. Students will participate in leadership and cross cultural communications workshops, as well as receive tours of the country we visit.
I am an ambitious high school student from Albuquerque, New Mexico. An A-B student, I consistently challenge myself with AP, Honors, and Dual Credit classes, each one presenting me with the opportunity to further myself as an intellect and appreciate the world in a new light. I am very active at my school, participating in National Honors Society, Belly Dance, and Creative Writing, and serving as an officer for AP Ambassadors and Gay Straight Alliance. My education is very important to me. Attending this conference would help enrich my education and further my academic experience, and nurture my leadership capabilities.
Equally important to my academic ambitions, are my ambitions to make my school, my community, and the world a better place. Miscommunication, particularly a lack of understanding and respect between cultures, can have devastating effects on infinitely many people. Wishing to be a cultural anthropologist in the future, not only do I find cross cultural studies fascinating, but recognize their potential in facilitating peaceful and productive relations between individuals and nations. Never having been outside the United States before, I would love to be able to travel to China for this conference. This would provide me with the wonderful opportunity to be immersed for the first time in a culture far different from my own, as well as the access to workshops that guide me in conducting positive interactions with those of different beliefs.
Attending the Global Youth Leadership Conference would be a life changing experience for me. There is a lot I would love to learn about leadership and cross cultural communication, and I believe that the opportunity to attend this conference would would exponentially increase these skills for me, allowing me to, upon return, be able to contribute further to my school, my community, and one day, the world.
