We rescued a 6 month old German Shepherd, Lucy, on April 19 from Brightstar German Shepherd Rescue out of Rochester, NY. She was originally found roaming the streets of Texas. Since we have gotten Lucy, she has been in and out of the vets office and emergency vet with what they think is some type of bacterial infection. We have done everything possible to help Lucy.
In the past week we have spent over $8,000 to help her. However, we are running out of money and time to help save sweet Lucy. Her lymph nodes are so swollen and she has abdominal fluid that is now surrounding her belly and as a result she has abscesses on her liver. The procedure to drain these abscesses and stay in the hospital for recovery is estimated to be between $8,000-$10,000. We just went to visit her last night with the intentions of putting our sweet Lucy down based on prognosis and the reports of her not eating and signs of her giving up. When we got to see her and spend time with her, she showed us that she was clearly not giving up without a fight. Her tail started wagging and she put her paws on our shoulders and hugged us. To us, this is Lucy saying she is a fighter and she has given us hope that she can and will get through this.
Since we have seen Lucy, we got updates of her temperature coming down from 107 to 103 (it has been over 106 for over a week now) and reports of her wanting to eat on her own instead of being hand fed.
In the short time we have had our sweet Lucy, she has shown us so much love and brings so much happiness and excitement into our lives. We are so grateful to have Lucy come into our lives and to be able to give her the opportunity to have a loving family and home to grow up in.
We understand times are terribly hard right now, and asking for help is a last resort for us. If you can spare any amount, we would be beyond grateful for your help. If you can not donate, please share this post to spread the Love for Lucy.
Thank you all very much,
Andy and Ally
