On the 21st November 2019 my family went from booking our sons visit to see Santa and organising his 2nd birthday to hearing every parents worst nightmare - your son has CANCER.
Our whole world came crushing down and everything stood still in the most painful, numbing existence. My little Eric who was so loving and full of life disappeared over night and watching him go through treatment broke me. It’s taken a long time to be able to talk about it openly and there has been a lot of just about keeping it together behind closed doors. Now Eric is in maintenance and doing well I am finally finding my feet. My number one mission is to give back to the charity’s that make it possible for children to survive such an ugly invasive illness, Cancer really doesn’t care who you are or how old you are, you don’t get breaks and it is relentless, you don’t ever feel safe.
I will be taking part in the Spartan Beast race on October 9th 2021 to raise money for the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group, this charity strives to research kinder and more effective treatments. This charity is devoted to every child and young person surviving cancer and solely focus on children’s cancers.
September is children’s cancer awareness month so I am asking all my friends, family, and anyone who never wants to see a child suffer this disease to please support me in raising funds to allow this amazing charity to continue its hard work.
It is because of charity’s like this that my son is still here, I still get to be a dad and I have the confidence he will ring the end of treatment bell in January 2023. I hope no parent goes through this but the reality is children get cancer and around 1,900 children are diagnosed each year. I will forever be grateful for the science and research into leukaemia and it is my life mission to help charity’s help families in similar situations.
