Tessa Pyles' brain scan fund
Donation protected
This fund has been created to minister to Lauren and Jeff Pyles. For those of you who know L&J, you know that they will do anything for anyone. This is an opportunity to give back to them. Their adopted daughter Tessa has struggled both biologically and psychologically since joining the Pyles' family two years ago and would greatly benefit from getting a brain scan done at the Amen Clinic in Atlanta, GA. The Amen Clinic is the leader in brain health in the U.S. and their purpose is to utilize the science of brain imagining in order to more effectively diagnose and treat mental health issues. After hearing about the challenges Tessa has faced, John Townsend, an expert in the field of psychology, has also suggested a SPECT scan as the next best step for Tessa.
At the clinic, a historian will spend many hours with Jeff, Lauren, and Tessa in order to take a thorough biological, psychological, social, and spiritual history. Tessa will then have two brain scans done, one while at rest, and one while her brain is active. These tests will provide concrete information about what is going on in Tessa's brain. It will provide information such as how much or little blood flow is getting to each part of Tessa's brain, what areas of her brain are over active, which areas are under active, and if there is any visible brain damage. After the scan, the neurologist at the Amen Clinic will then go over Tessa's scans and create a treatment plan for her. As you can imagine, this amount of information has the potential to be invaluable in terms of getting Tessa the treatment that she needs.
The test is expensive; It is about $4,000. Some insurance companies will cover the cost of the test IF visible brain damage is found on the scan. However, Jeff and Lauren will not be able to know whether or not Tessa's scan could be covered until AFTER the test. This means that they have to be prepared to pay for it out of pocket. So in order to ease the financial burden, we want to cover the cost of the scan before they even go to Atlanta. Our funding goal is $6,000. This amount will cover the cost of the scan, the trip to Atlanta, and any intial treatment costs. Treatment for Tessa will most likely be long term, so in the event that a) their insurance company does cover some or all of the cost of the scan and/or b) we raise funds beyond this goal, the money we raise will go towards Tessa's long-term treatment plan, which will be costly. We would love to have this amount raised within the next two months so that she can get the scan done ASAP.
I cannot tell you what giving to this fund will mean to Jeff and Lauren, so thank you to everyone who chooses to donate. The impact this will have on Tessa's life is indescribable and the blessing it will be to a very deserving family is even more. THANK YOU!
