Gal Pals for Go Joe Go

Fellow Target Creative co-workers, Emily Reile, Rachel Arford and Sara Lintner are running/walking the Half Marathon on July 4th, dedicated to our dear friend and co-worker, Joe Danger.

Joe's Story:
On March 6th, Joe fell ill and was taken to the ER and subsequently admitted into ICU where he slipped into a deep coma for over 5 weeks. The cause of Joe's illness and coma was a mystery and required massive amounts of medications and steroids to reverse inflammation to his brain, which was causing severe brain damage. Even after a brain biopsy, doctors could only come to the consensus that Joe's immune system had overreacted, turned against his own body and began attacking his brain.  The combination of medications and the severity of brain damage made Joe’s prognosis and recovery “grim” and unpredictable...

But—Joe didn’t give up and neither did his partner, Tim, his family, his friends, his doctors and the many care providers! We are happy to share that he came out of coma and is working hard each and every day (speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy). His recovery process is a marathon (not a sprint). Joe still remains in the hospital today but is making a “slow and steady” recovery and we are in awe of his recovery and willpower.  Although Joe has no full use of his legs yet, his arm movements are improving daily but still has many challenges ahead of him--both physical and financial.

So, in honor of Joe's own recovery marathon, Emily, Rachel and I will be participating in the Red White and Boom half marathon. To cheer us on—and more importantly Joe on—we are soliciting donations in which 100% will go directly to Joe and Tim to help defray the medical costs.
