Philly Healing Response
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
After the shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, my partner Alanna and I saw a lot of our friends who are LGBTQ hurting. This attack has reverberated beyond geography or personal relation to the victims and their families.
Despite the rapid nature of our news cycles we know the pain caused by this attack still resonates with many in our community.
Alanna and I are raising $3,500 so that 10 LGBTQ healers (massage, reiki, etc.) in Philly can give free sessions to 50 people in their community without sacrificing an income. The healers are all Philadelphia-based professionals who have been invited to participate in this project, and who have consented . We selected these healers from a listserve of certified healing practitioners in the Philadlephia region.
The initiators of the campaign, Alanna Butler and Jacob Winterstein live in West Philadelphia, and are a cis, straight-identified couple, grappling with how to use the energy that comes with our privilege, to organize healing for our LGBTQ friends, and friends of friends. Alanna has lived in West Philly for over ten years and works in public health. Jacob is from Philadelphia and is a poet and runs a summer camp for adults.
Please donate. I especially encourage my straight friends to step up in the aftermath of this attack. Whether you're able to give $5 or all $3,500 donating is a way right now to say "I see you and I care about you."
Each healer has different rates. As a benchmark $60 pays for one person to receive an hour long session.
Once the fundraising is over, the money will be dispersed to the 8 healers (2 are providing services free of charge), in order to pre-pay them for the sessions that they'll be providing. The money will be dispersed electronically using Venmo.
As of now the campaign has raised almost $1,600. This means that each healer will receive $200, and will be able to schedule an average of 3 sessions via this funding.
Once the healers have been prepaid, their contact information will be shared with LGBTQ family and friends, and with that information individuals can schedule a session with the healer they are interested in, baring that the healer still has prepaid sessions left.
The healers contact info. will be shared mindfully within and for the LGBTQ community. We'll send it out to our LGBTQ Philly friends, and all the practitioners will be invited to do the same.
Let me know if you have any questions and thank you.
