My friend Imani is a single mom of a very smart, kind and energetic 7 year old, named Nasir. She is trying to build a better future for both of them. She finished her GRE in the spring of last year and started culinary school in the fall of 2015. After she started her GRE the government cut her cash support to $125 a month. That barely covers her travel to school and late night work. As a result she was not able to pay her electric bills for a while.
Her power was cut off in May. Due to the lack of power she and her son don't sleep well, they cannot store perishable foods, and they are facing the DC summer with no air-conditioning. The lack of air-conditioning also complicates Imani's asthma. I am so impressed with her. She juggles school, work, and taking care of Nasir.
She doesn't like to ask for help but now she surely could use some help.
