Philip Carrell's Medical Expenses

My name is Andy Carrell.

My brother Phil is a good man. As a minister, he has selflesslessly helped people whenever he can, touching peoples lives and genuinely caring about their well-being. He is a family man. He has a loving wife and two children. He is a hard worker, providing for his family under what many of us would consider "nearly unsurmountable circumstances". He is the kind of man that I'm proud to call my brother.

On Monday, June 13th, 2016, all that nearly came to an end. While riding his motorcycle just down the road from his house, a man in a pickup truck made an illegal U-Turn from the right turn lane... cutting accross the lane my brother was traveling. Phil had no time to stop. He crashed into the side of the truck at 45 mph, throwing him from the bike, severing his foot in the process. He was fortunate that this happened right in front of a family friends house, and Phil was rushed to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Phil underwent a lengthy surgery to reattach the foot, having to be resuscitated in the process, as he stopped breathing. The surgery went well, and the doctors have given a prognosis that he will "hopefully" recover at least some of the usage of the foot. He can wiggle his toes, and thats a good sign. Two days later the doctors performed another surgery, this time to clean out any gravel in the wound that they may have missed, as well as search for any early signs of infection. Again Phil stopped breathing, and had to be resuscitated. And again, the surgery was successful. On Saturday June 18th, Philip was released from the hospital and we took him home. Thank God for the amazing doctors at Methodist... the fact that my brother is alive is a true miracle, and one I don't take lightly. I can't remember the last time I cried...perhaps when I was a kid. I cried on Monday.

That brings me to the reason I started this GoFundMe campaign. Like many of you who are uninsured or underinsured, medical bills can be an almost unsurmountable expense. Winndy, Phil's loving wife of 26 years has Muscular Dystrophy and is unable to work. Her disability payment helps, but there just isn't enough money from that to cover the mountain of medical expenses that will be coming in. And while there "may" eventually be a settlement, there will be countless medical expenses in the meantime, as well as the normal expenses for food, shelter, etc..

MANY people have contacted the family asking how they can help. The outpouring of love and concern has been one of the most profouondly touching things I have ever seen, and has truly renewed my faith in people. Well, this is how you can help.... through GoFundMe, you can donate to help with these expenses. You can help a good man, a good family, and a genuinely amazing person in their time of need. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

So I'm asking... no, BEGGING you to help. Whatever you can, whether it's $5 or $100, EVERY DOLLAR MAKES A DIFFERENCE. If I had the money I would never ask for help. Phil and Winndy aren't the type to ask for help... and they are so occupied with just helping Phil heal, that things like medical expenses are not in the forefront of their minds.

This GoFundMe account is how I can help, and it's how you can help.

Thank you, from the deepest part of my heart -
