First, thank you to everyone who takes the time to read our story. I am Ashley Miller and next to me is my fiancé, Jeffery Schmidt. We live a loving, adventurous, joyful life in Denver, Colorado. We have the most vibrant, loving, cheerful Golden Retriever. His name is Sunny (Sunshine). Sunny is 1 1/2 years old. He truly is the light of our lives. In February, Jeffery asked me to be his wife and there was no one more excited than our Sunny.
Sunny has lived a healthy, active, happy life thus far. He loves hiking, playing with his friends, socks and every single human he meets. On the eve of Friday, June 17th Sunny woke us up very ill. In less than 24 hours, Sunny lost his bark, mobility in his legs and his livelihood. After hours in the ICU, blood tests and x-rays, Sunny is being diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease. Myasthenia Gravis is a disorder of signal transmission between the nerves and muscles (known as neuromuscular transmission), characterized by muscular weakness and excessive fatigue. The progression of Sunny's symptoms is something that is very unusual, especially for his age. Not only is Sunny battling this disease, he is also battling pneumonia. Currently, Sunny is on a ventilator to help him breathe as he is having trouble on his own.
As of today, Sunny's expenses are atapprox $7,000 for the blood testing, x-rays, 72 hours of overnight care in the ICU, physical therapy, prescriptions and the additional vitals taken by his current doctors being reviewed by specialists at the University of San Diego.
There are many risks with this disease and the treatment, however we are confident and have faith in our fighter. Even with the current obstacles in Sunny's way, we have seen with our own eyes that he is going to fight with every ounce of his being and we are prepared to fight right next to him, no matter what it takes. We would not be "us" without Sunny. There are no words to express how much your financial help would mean to us and to Sunny.
There is a chance that Sunny will not make it through this. If you are reading this and are not able to contribute financially, please pray from him. Jeffery and I are firm believers in love and what the universe is capable of. We are doing our very best to stay as positive as possible and keep the energy high when we are able to see him in person. Right now we are getting 1 visit per day. Today Jeffery brought Sunny his ball. He told me that little piece of home would make Sunny fight even harder to come home. We believe.
Thank you for your support, no matter what form that comes in. We are forever grateful. Sunny can feel it, we can feel it and there is nothing that love can't conquer.
