These furry little beasts are the source of great love and comfort in the Grat household. Recently, they have also been a money pit. This GoFundMe campaign is to help pay for the accumulation of vet bills that are crushing my will to live :-/
The Drama started with The Captain. A few days of decreasing appetite was a red flag that the old salt was in trouble. He had mouth ulcers, a consequence in all likelihood of scurvy from too long on the High Seas (or more likely just the degeneration typical of a 15 year old cat with FIV, but we tell it his way to maintain his dignity). The ulcers were from tooth decay, and 5 teeth removed (and a bounty of $1500) later all seemed well.Then Queen Mab got a swollen lymph gland. Probably from a scratch, as she had also lost her collar defending the nation of Mabtopia from the White Paw rebels two houses down. Antibiotics and rest inside was slated to do the trick for Her Mabjesty. ($166.00, not too bad we thought!)Then the Captain's humours turned. He started peeing blood, necessitating a panicked rush to the vet. Diagnosis: stress-related bladder clenching and a UTI. KkOnto more antibiotics kand a relaxing medication. ($287.00)Mab, not to be outdone, developed an abscess in spite of her treatment, and had to go under the knife to excise and drain it. ($915.00)Captain reacted badly to the medication for his stress, staggering about like a drunkard, and his UTO probed to have seen many ports and was antibiotic resistant. New meds, and more rest, was applied. ($200)Mab's drain came out but the wound infected despite all efforts to the contrary, and so the Cone of Shame descended, more painkillers and tinctures to relieve her stress, and an enforced isolation in the Tower of Not Being Allowed to Have Fun. (More $, at this point the treasury was wailing and weeping at the expense!)And now after all this, though both our protagonists recover slowly, we are cautious in our optimism that they will not require gold plating, essence of rubies or perhaps rhinoceros pouts to restore them to health.Any contribution you kind, cat-loving folks could make will be gratefully accepted, and responded to with a haiku or Limerick tailored to your person as well as a standing offer of hugs from Yours Truly.
