In most ways, Carly is an average twelve year old girl. She is sweet, amitious, beautiful, headstrong and smart. She likes many things that the average girl would... soccer, friends, family and school. However, Carly has something that most average twelve year olds do not. She has knowledge that even many adults do not understand. A knowledge that the world is not always full of rainbows and daydreams. She is well aware of the fact that things happen, things that hurt, things that ruin lives, things that can break you. A knowledge that you only gain while making your way through one of lifes traumatic storms, and emerging on the other side a different person. 
Sometimes that different person is weak, scared, timid and small. Other times, that person is stronger and smarter. Quicker, and no longer innocently nieve. Sometimes that person has outgrown who they were, only to become an even more amazing human being. 
As Carly makes her way through this, she is learning that she will become strong in the aftermath. Her Mom, Lea, is showing her how to fight, be courageous, and navigate through trauma in life. Lea is showing Carly that you can not be defeated by people who will make life miserable for you. Escape them and move on, giving them nothing of you to control. Carly is learning patience, honesty, integrety, and the value of herself, and her strength. 
In spite of all the damage the storm has brought, Lea helps Carly find the silver lining in the clouds, no matter how hidden it may be... and that lesson and skill is something that this amazing twelve year old will have for the rest of her life. 
In this fight, there are many people, in the official capacity, and the self appointed... who make this journey more difficult than it needs to be.
