May 2, 2022 UPDATE:
Friends,
It is with immense sadness that I post this final update. Anna—my beloved cousin, Matt’s treasured wife, and Ruby’s adoring mother—passed away last night, Sunday, May 1. Her sister tells me she went peacefully at around 10:15pm. Memorial service arrangements are currently being made.
The family welcomes donations to help cover this final cost. And as always, your thoughts and prayers for Anna’s family at this heartbreaking time are welcomed and appreciated.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone here for your love and support.

March 15, 2022 UPDATE:
After two hospital stays for unrelated issues, Anna is in San Francisco tonight awaiting another immunotherapy treatment tomorrow. Thoughts and prayers and positive vibes always appreciated for her treatment tomorrow.

March 2022 UPDATE:
Hi everyone. I have some updates on Anna. She's currently at UCSF due to extreme dehydration. Earlier, she went to the ER after a few weeks of extreme nausea and vomiting, and with dangerously low potassium; she is now in the hospital and will be released once she shows she can eat and keep down food. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers! We thank you again for all your support as Anna fights to beat this!

January 2022 UPDATE:
Hi everyone. I have some updates from Anna. After more chemo, Anna's body is struggling to process any more harsh treatments, and she and the family are now exploring more naturopathic options. As they work out their options and the best path for moving forward, any donations to help with this new treatment plan would be much appreciated. #forrubykae
Anna's family is also requesting prayers, good vibes, well wishes, happy thoughts, loving meditations--and any and all goodness you can send to Anna, Matt, and five-year-old Ruby. Here's a message from Anna's family: "We are praying that Anna's body heals enough for treatment. Whatever that treatment may be. We are praying that Anna's body is able to respond to the treatment. We are praying for Anna to be filled with peace and love because that is the BEST place to be FOR healing. We are praying for her doctors to help her with a clear mind and purpose. Love you all and we appreciate you more than we can say."

Hi everyone. I'm Michelle. Here I am with my cousin Anna, and that energetic four-year-old is her daughter, Ruby. In 2017, Anna was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer that had spread to her liver. Over the past three-and-half years, this heroic mama has been through over a dozen rounds of intensive chemo, radiation treatments, and multiple surgeries. As you can imagine, this has been an arduous journey, and your contribution could help Anna defeat cancer for good--and give little Ruby her healthy mama back. #forrubykae

Anna’s current course of treatment has been especially taxing. Recently, lesions on her liver have grown, while she still works to fight a new lesion discovered on her lung last October that required radiation. The current round of chemotherapy and medication causes harsh side effects, including excruciating abdominal pain, and a painful rash, with the most severe side effect being a lack of white blood cells to fight infection, coupled with an inability to absorb fluids, causing dehydration and extreme fatigue.
This lack of ability to fight infection makes it dangerous for Anna to stay in the hospital for extended periods of time in the midst of a viral pandemic. As a result, Anna must be driven to San Francisco (a couple hours drive from her San Joaquin Valley home) on a regular basis.
Luckily, Anna has a wonderful husband, Matthew, to help care for her during this difficult time. Because of the pain, Anna needs help simply to move around the house, and she requires IV hydration regularly because of extreme dehydration due to difficulty absorbing liquids. Between Anna's medical needs and drives to San Francisco, plus caring for a growing and vibrant four-year-old, caring for his family requires the time and energy of a full-time job for Matthew--but one that depletes your bank account, instead of filling it.

And this is where your donation comes in. Matt has had to take an extended leave of absence from work to care for Anna and Ruby. Yet, medical bills pile up, plus the expense of travel, as well as hotels for stays in San Francisco. The money I'm asking you for today will be used specifically to continue Anna's health insurance, and to help the family cover these travel-related expenses.
$24,204 is a dream. It's also the amount it would cost for one year of COBRA, just to continue the health insurance that's helping to pay for Anna's life-saving treatments.
I know this is a big number, and raising the entire amount is a dream. But any amount you can give today will be extremely helpful to this struggling family.
Ruby was still a baby when her mom was diagnosed. Let's help Ruby grow up with a healthy mama by kicking this cancer to the curb for good!
