Fallen Marines of 3D CEB Fundraiser
Donation protected
My name is Jordan Rodick. I served as a Combat Engineer Officer at 3D Combat Engineer Battalion in Twentynine Palms, CA. I currently serve as the Commanding Officer for Charlie Company, 4th Law Enforcement Battalion. While I was with 3D CEB, I deployed to Afghanistan along with 3 Marines that I have begun this fundraiser in memory of. Though we were a part of the same battalion, I did not have the privilege to know these men personally, as we were deployed to different parts of Afghanistan. Yet, they and their sacrifice made an impact on everyone in 3D CEB. I feel it is my duty as a Marine and Veteran to help keep their memory alive and share their story with everyone I meet.
Jason Barfield (22) of Ashford, AL, Christopher Singer (23) of Temecula, CA, and Nickolas Daniels (25) of Elmwood Park, IL were all part of 1st Platoon, Bravo Company, 3D Combat Engineer Battalion. Their mission took them to one of the most hostile regions of Afghanistan, known as Sangin. Attached to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, they served as “sweepers;” looking for explosives laid in the ground by enemy forces. They walked point for their infantry brothers, clearing the way so other Marines could pass safely. Serving as point on an infantry patrol is an unusually dangerous position, especially when your job is to safely guide your brothers through an active minefield. These men willingly served in this role without hesitation or apprehension. They knew the risks and stepped out as guardian Angels for their fellow Marines. I hope the families will forgive me for the brevity of this explanation; I don't think there are enough words to do justice to the lives they lived and the sacrifice they made.
The Bataan Death March Memorial hike is conducted annually at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. It was initially designed to pay homage to the men who were forced to march for many miles and days on end, through the jungles of southeastern Asia by the Imperial Japanese Army, during World War 2. These men were subjected to extremely adverse and austere conditions. Men who fell back or out of the march were bayonetted, shot, or run over by Japanese tanks. Once the march was finally over, they were imprisoned in POW camps where they were subjected to hard labor without mercy. The memorial march in New Mexico is 26.2 miles through the desert. Participants can opt to enter as a team or individual and lightweight (no pack) or heavy weight divisions (35 lbs pack). Participants typically fill their pack with non-perishable food items to be donated at the conclusion of the hike. The hike takes place March 19, 2017 at 7:00am. The average completion time is about 9 hours.
This is my small way of helping to remember and honor the story of Jason Barfield, Nickolas Daniels and Christopher Singer, and telling their story to those who did not know them.
I have set this GoFundMe page up in order to fund the flight, motel, and registration. While I hope I can fulfill the $1,200 goal, I hope even more that I can surpass this number so that I can donate the extra money to a memorial fund, scholarship, or charity (The Lone Survivor Foundation). I can never repay the debt that I and we as a country owe these Marines, however, I hope that this will help to both illuminate the memory of these men and touch whoever did not know them, in a way that makes them feel as if they did.
Thank you for taking the time to at least read this. If you cannot donate, please help me to spread this fund to your network. Once I reach my goal, the rest goes to the families of these Marines and to charity.
These men were brothers and sons who had families who loved them. If you can do nothing else, please continue to acknowledge the sacrifice of these men and others like them. Celebrate their lives and that such courageous men lived.
Semper Fidelis and God Bless Jason, Christopher, and Nickolas.
