Kendall appears normal and healthy on the outside, but every day is a physical and emotional struggle for her and for many suffering from invisible disabilities. So slight, it wasn’t until at age 8, she learned she had had a prenatal or at-birth stroke leaving her with left side weakness becoming outwardly visible with her needed orthopedic leg brace. At 13 Kendall passed out on her way to an Indian Princess camp out. After seven months of being bedridden, wheelchair bound, numerous tests and hospital visits, she was finally diagnosed with a genetic protein mutation which reduces her overall bodily function by 20% and an autoimmune disease, P.O.T.S. (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), a form of dysautonomia. As a junior in high school with the assistance of Pompano Beach Lighthouse Rotary, she created her original annual fundraising event, Water Balloon Bullseye, to raise awareness of invisible disabilities and donated monies raised to DYNA and New Horizons Service Dogs to help others. She now, however, is herself in need of a service dog to assist her in college and life. The training and selection process could take up to 2 years. Once matched there will be 2 weeks of training with the dog at their location and additional expenses for food and transportation, accommodations, and her new service dogs food and supplies. Kendall’s medical and service dogs needs will continue for years to come so your support is greatly appreciated.
