UPDATE: The Cacioppo family has gotten over the initial shock of being displaced from their home, adjusting to 4 adults sharing a single-room efficiency, trying to carry on their normal responsibilities of working and attending school, all while trying to rebuild their lives. Their home has been visited by restoration experts, insurance adjusters and people responsible to make the repairs. All of this is happening at a snail's pace due to COVID.  In the meantime, it is their responsibility to pick through the debris and catalog everything for the insurance company to review; a slow and tedious task.  During the process, they find sentimental or irreplaceable items that have to be thrown away and its heart wrenching every time. They also have to buy clothes to wear and begin the task of replacing their beds, linens, furniture, carpeting, etc. And insurance will not provide them with any money to do any of this until the entire process is done. Your donations are helping them with those expenses as well as eating in their room as dining out is not an option at this time. 
Thanks to the donations of many generous and caring people, the Cacioppo's are moving forward the best they can.  They would like to convey their heartfelt gratitude to everyone. They are speechless at how many people have come to their rescue through this campaign or through other methods. They are most appreciative to the people they don't even know, but who heard the appeal for help and stepped up to help them.

On the afternoon of Friday, February 5th, 2021, the Cacioppo’s home became compromised due to a devastating fire that started in an adjacent apartment. By grace, no lives were claimed. Patti, Tom, Thomas and Tyler reached out to the Red Cross for help finding a temporary place to stay but the family is in limbo for the next few weeks until the insurance company can relocate them to more suitable lodgings. They were able to get into their apartment with a restoration company to assess the damage and are heartbroken to learn that they will be able to salvage some, but not all of their belongings, furniture, beds, etc.  Even though some of the Cacioppo’s belongings are intact, the apartment is still not livable, and it is uncertain when this will change. 

 

We are raising funds on the Cacioppo’s behalf to help get them through the next few weeks, purchase necessities, food, as well as help Tom work remotely, Tyler attend school remotely and most importantly, keep the family together during this difficult time.

 

As victims of fires face tremendous emotional stress and financial costs, we hope this fund will help alleviate some of the challenges. We also acknowledge that during this pandemic many people are also facing hardships themselves, therefore, are grateful for any donations and no donation is too small.
