Hi Everyone!
My name is Maura (Harty) Raeburn. I am 1988 graduate of Farmington High School and attended East Farms Elementary School. While at East Farms, I had an amazing Physical Education Teacher, named Grant Sheely. Little did I know, several years later, all 3 of my children would have him as their teacher as well, at Noah Wallace School.
This past fall, Mr. Sheely died unexpectedly and I am sure you can imagine how the Noah Wallace Community and our town, was devasted! He was so inspiring to all. He always encouraged everyone to be active. He always said to go out and play! We would like to honor him at Noah Wallace by purchasing an exercise bench. Please see the details below.
Grant Sheely Memorial Exercise Bench
Calling all Noah Wallace School Community Members, Neighbors, Alumni and Friends! In honor of our beloved physical education teacher Mr. Grant Sheely who recently passed away last October, the NWS community would like to honor his spirit and legacy of promoting fun and wellness for all children. Mr. Sheely had an enormous impact on students at NWS as an educator and friend for over thirty years. We are asking for your help in raising money for a memorial bench which will double as a place of social gathering and exercise for our community members in the upper field area of NWS. The bench itself will be provided by the Fibrex Company who manufactures good quality, environmentally friendly benches and furniture made from various recycled materials. The bench will be engraved on the front and back as a memoriam to Grant Sheely and his legacy of fun, education and wellness at NWS. Aside the bench, will be an instructional child friendly sign which displays six simple exercises chosen by NWS students to do utilizing the bench as a piece of fitness equipment. We plan to unveil the bench at our annual NWS Fun Run scheduled on Oct 19th at 3:15 PM. We are seeking to raise $1500 for the cost of the bench and instructional sign. Any extra funds will be donated to the Grant Sheely Memorial Scholarship Fund which provides financial support to identified Farmington High School students.
