My name is Maxxwell and i run a community based music/art space in Detroit. In the last two years I've hosted hundreds of shows, had over 1000 different artists perform and provided a safe environment for people to come and enjoy arts of all mediums.
Right before the new year, I took a big leap and purchased a building after leasing the sanctuary's old building so I could have a permanent location secured for the long term. Unfortunately, the space recently ran into troubles with zoning shortly after it opened. The city came and shut us down, contesting our special usage permit . First we met with the zoning officials seeing about how we could get this resolved, they determined we would need to re-zone our building to an alternate code. We payed the application fees and went through all the steps, but sadly were informed our proposal was denied, rendering me unable to continue using our building.
This is a devastating blow and puts the Sanctuary's future in jeopardy. I'm currently are out thousands of dollars in building payments ($5000), renovations ($3000), and city/legal fees ($1200).
With that being said, I'm sadly forced to pull out of my deal with the new building, putting me further in the red and even worse, without a permanent building for the future.
With your help, I'm looking to recoup the loss as much as possible and immediately get back on track. The goal money will go toward a down payment and renovations/setup at a new building. I've got a couple i'm scouting right now and hoping i can work out a deal as soon as possible! Every little bit helps right now, this place is my life and I truly don't want to see it go. Thank you for the support
