This is an effort to raise some money to help Daniel, who's had to leave Seattle and his work to take care of his parents in Florida. His mother has been moved to a memory care/skilled nursing facility due to Alzheimers and his father is recovering from heart surgery and needs a great deal of help from Daniel, and I believe may have to go to an assisted living facility. For someone like Daniel, who lives month to month on very little, taking time off from work and having nothing to fall back on adds a great deal of stress and uncertainty to an already difficult situation. I believe that this fund will help significantly to mitigate the cost of having to travel and be unemployed while caring for his parents. He is in the process of applying for FMLA, but meanwhile he has expenses, debt and no income.
In Daniel's words, describing the last month or so: "eighteen hour days, caregiving, dealing with finances, Medicaid qualification process, elder care lawyers..."
I initiated and created this campaign (with Daniel's approval). I'm happy to provide more information. Daniel is a dear friend to many people in the SIMS community, and beyond. He's an inspiring and devoted practitioner; a very generous person who's given a lot of time to SIMS. I hope this campaign helps support him during this difficult period. Even small donations could have a big impact.
Update/October 12:
Thank you all for your generous support. Members of Daniel’s Sangha here in Seattle got together to research and organize how best to get Daniel’s apartment contents to him in Tampa without his returning to Seattle. Your generous donations to date allowed us to rent s 7x7x8’ PODS. This past week some of us packed up and yesterday we completely emptied the small apartment and filled the PODS! You can see more images of the progress here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/qbsK1PTTmgf9qGoP6
The PODS will begin its journey to Tampa on Monday and take more than a week to reach him around October 26. He’ll only have until November 9 to completely empty it. Given how his time is already quite full caring for his parents, we’d like to ask if you can donate just a tiny bit more money so we can hire him two movers for two hours who will completely unpack the PODS for him. This will only cost about $400 and seems well worth it and will be a huge burden off of Daniel.
