I was diagnosed with stage 1 IDC, ER/PR/HER2 positive breast cancer early January 2021. I have no family history. I felt a lump in October and had to wait or open enrollment through Covered California in November. My insurance wasn't active until December so I made the first appointment available. It's been a process for sure. I had to start off with a well woman exam, then I was an ultrasound and mammogram, then it was a core biopsy that gave me the final diagnosis. It's been a whirlwind of doctors appointments and MRIs. I've also decided to freeze my eggs since after my chemo and surgery will have to go into ovarian suppression essentially launching me into menopause. I will have to do 6 courses of chemo every 3 weeks, followed by surgery then the ovarian suppression for 5 or 10 years because my tumor is estrogen and progesterone receptor positive. I will be on short term disability during this time but it will barely cover my rent. My savings is already depleted between my egg preservation and my insurance deductible. Unfortunately since I am per diem at my job, I'm not eligible for benefits. I will need all the help I can get, anything is appreciated.
