Sara Hopkins and her husband Buck Scharfnorth suffered a brutal personal tragedy this week when their home caught fire in the middle of the night. The fire gutted their Atlanta apartment and claimed most everything they owned. Worse, Sara and Buck also suffered painful injuries trying to escape the blaze. Sara broke a vertebrae, a leg and a foot leaping out of their attic apartment. Buck suffered severe smoke inhalation. Together they will have extensive medical bills. The pain of this fire was made all the more devastating by the loss of their two cats, Zoey and Izzy, who Sara and Buck rescued from the Atlanta Humane Society. Now, Sara and Buck will have to pick up the pieces and find a place to live. Sara says, “Our biggest issue now is to find a place to stay while we wait to heal - I suffered a fractured spine, foot, and leg, which have rendered me helpless -- I can't do anything without the aid of another person for several months. Buck is better -- he inhaled a lot of smoke -- it is amazing he is alive.” Clothes, photos, Sara’s photography gear and Buck’s work computers all have either been damaged or totally lost in the fire. Elizabeth and I met Sara in college and we know her to be a courageous spirit and giving person. (She also shot our wedding.) Will you please help Sara and Buck in their time of need? The money will be used to help get them through this difficult time and cover bills as they arise. I'd be grateful if you help them and I know Sara and Buck will be, too.
