Welcome to our donation page in support of our nephew, Arsen Borys, who was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Thank you for visiting this site, reading his story, and providing him with hope for the future!
Arsen was born on October 9, 2019 in Ukraine and was developing as an average infant until six months of age, when his parents first noticed some early signs of muscle weakness. Then the pandemic started, and they couldn't visit Arsen's doctor in person but only over the phone. Arsen’s parents, Nadia and Yurii, started to seek further help as soon as businesses began opening again, and Arsen had a genetic test performed on January 5th, 2021. The results came back on January 21st as positive for SMA type 2, which is a very rare, monogenic, neurodegenerative disorder that is often delayed in its diagnoses. SMA is a disease caused by the deletion or mutation of the survival motor neuron 1(SMN1) gene. Its characterized by a progressive loss of motor neurons, missed motor milestones and death.
There is a new treatment available that will save Arsen's life and restore motor functioning. It's called Zolgensma! This life changing shot is officially the most expensive medicine in the world $2.3 million US dollars. It is made up of a new, working copy of a human SMN gene that is placed inside a vector. A vector's job is to take a new , working SMN gene to the motor neuron cells in the body. When the new gene reaches the destination it's ready to tell the motor neuron cells to start making SMN protein. Zolgensma works on the protein gene and it is a once in a lifetime injection. The positive outcome of this treatment would allow Arsen to sit, walk, and breathe...
Zolgensma has to be injected by the age of two. So we have only nine moths to save Arsen.... Ця сторінка відкрита для збору коштів на препарат Zolgensma для нашого племінника Арсенка , якому був поставлений діагноз Спінальна М’язова Атрофія (СМА) і підтверджений 27-го січня 2021. Арсенко народився 9-го жовтня 2019 року на Тернопільщині , м. Скалат. Розвивався хлопчик нормально до 6-ти місяців, коли батьки почали помічати перші симптоми , а саме загальну слабкість м‘язів у хлопчика. І тут почалася пандемія COVID-19, можливості побачити лікаря не було, а коли появилася , то не одразу змогли оприділити якого роду слабкість.
Спинна М‘язова атрофія це дуже рідкісне нервово-м'язове захворювання, що супроводжується втратою мотонейронів та прогресуючою атрофією м'язів, що призводить до ранньої смерті.
Є одна ін’єкція в світі, яка вводиться один раз на все життя, назва її - Zolgensma!
