Bella's Surgery

I want to thank everyone who has donated to help Bella. With all of the donations we have received from Go Fund Me plus donations that were given directly to me we have raised enough money for Bella's surgery and after care. I'm so grateful to everyone who donated. My heartfelt gratitude to all of you.

Pam & Miss Bella Ann

Hi, my name is Pam Rayburn. Last October in 2020, I adopted a rez dog named Bella. She's mostly Red Heeler, what else I'm not sure of. In our first few weeks together, we've gotten through quieting her separation anxiety and have formed a close and loving bond. Also in those first couple of weeks I noticed her favoring her back left leg. One time she fell backwards off the loveseat and she cried and cried with pain. This prompted me to take her to the vet and I found out from x-rays that she has a bullet fragment lodged in her rear left knee. The vet said it needs to be removed from that area or it will continue to cause her pain, and it could worsen the damage to her knee if left in.

Bella is a dog from the Navajo Reservation (these dogs are commonly referred to as rez dogs) that is around 5-6 years old. She is a love bug, very sweet and very mellow. She is a loving companion, and she is very grateful to have a real home and her own human at last.

My friends and I surmise that at some point, while living on the reservation, Bella was shot and has a bullet fragment lodged in her back left knee. She is currently on pain medication for this.

Bella loves going on walks with me. She walks slowly, and the longer she walks, the slower she gets. I slow down and set my pace to hers. The cold weather and low pressure systems before and during the snowstorms cause Bella even more discomfort.  After she lays down for a while she will limp when she gets up for several minutes, then she gets more limbered up and can walk for a while without limping. The longer Bella's surgery is delayed, the higher chance there is of more damage to her knee joint. The sooner Bella has her surgery, the better.

I'm shopping for insurance for Bella that I can afford on my fixed income, but these health issues cropped up within those first few weeks of having her, and money I might have spent for her insurance had to go to the veterinarian for diagnostic exams to find out what was happening with her back left leg.

What's needed is to raise money for her surgery, her follow up care, and equipment such as a ramp to allow her to get in and out of her home while she is in recovery. Bella also will be needing another 6 months of HeartGuard, which I have to purchase a 6 month's supply all at one time. All donations will go to a special account for Bella.

After such a hard beginning on the Rez, it's important to do the best possible for Bella, to give her a happy and pain free life for the rest of her days.
