Medical co-pays

I’ve been dealing with my heart disease most of my life but this last year has been the toughest for me. I was in the hospital for a good portion of 2020 due to going into end stage heart failure. Even though my history of heart disease should have been the “elephant in the room” for why I was constantly coughing up blood (to the point of needing transfusions), they were looking in my lungs and put me on prednisone which caused a TON of other problems....). Long story short, I am waiting to get on the list for a heart transplant (have to wait 6 months after this last surgery to go on the list).
In 2020, due to all the heart surgeries, bronchoscopies, hospitalizations and the pacemaker and defibrillator implant, the total in my medical bills were $437,962.80 of which my part is $5,932.00. Both my wife and myself are on a fixed income through SSDI and we have a hard enough time paying for gas and parking at UWMC for all of our medical appointments much less these co-pays.
I feel pretty weird making this go fund me for myself but I guess it’s worth a shot! I’m trying to explore every option!
