My best friend and sister by heart, Alicia, was recently diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, a fast-moving form of breast cancer. Just one month ago, she got engaged and was looking forward to walking down the aisle in five months. Instead, she is now preparing for surgery, chemo/immunotherapy, and taking fertility precautions so she can still have children one day. This includes treatments like IVF, freezing eggs and storage options that are rarely covered fully by insurance.

If you know Alicia, you know she is the one who shows up for everyone. She cared for her mother through her cancer journey three years ago, always putting others first, loving big, and giving freely. Alicia is adored by her fiancé, my children and truly everyone who knows her. Her unwavering faith and kindness have touched so many lives, and now it’s our turn to show up for her.
