Hello! My name is Aaron Chung and I am an artist currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. My focus in art is to explore how cultural identity is perceived through the lens of an “outsider”. I exemplify this by pulling symbols from my Korean heritage and reinterpreting them with traditional materials, such as ink and paper.
Recently I was accepted into a two-month long artist residency in Japan at Shiro Oni Studio. This is a great opportunity for me to engage with other artists from different nations and share and critique our work while being in the Japanese countryside. The dialogue we exchange, as well as being introduced to new techniques, will broaden my views and knowledge of crafting new pieces. The landscape that surrounds me will further inspire the direction of my work by including the Japanese aesthetic and philosophy.

The residency runs from the first week of August to the end of September 2016. I sincerely ask for your support. With your financial backing I will be able to cover the costs for materials, travel expenses, and studio fees. I can assure that any donation made will be very much appreciated and most importantly will go towards making exciting work that visually encourages cultural exchange and understanding. Feel free to follow me on my journey at my instagram, twitter, or facebook page @aaronchungart. Thank you!
All the best,
Aaron
