Here is Heather’s Story:
Around February 2016, Heather began having diminished hearing in her left ear, along with tinnitus and severe headaches.
In March, Heather’s hearing continued to worsen, yet after seeking medical attention, it was determined that nothing abnormal was found.
In April, the hearing in Heather’s left ear was almost nonexistent, along with the left part of her face and tongue going numb. She was unable to taste food on the left side of her mouth.
On April 29th, Nurse practitioner Kathy Wyer treated Heather. She administered a cat scan and an MRI of her brain. The result of the scans located a tumor in her brain. One part of the tumor is affecting her 7th & 8th cranial nerves, which in turn has been affecting her facial muscles and the muscles in her tongue.
In addition, there is an offshoot of the tumor, which is located in her auditory canal, causing imbalance, dizziness, pressure, headaches, tinnitus & other symptoms.
On June 8th 2016, Heather was flown from Yuma Regional Medical Center to St. Joseph’s / Barrows Hospital in Phoenix, due to her symptoms becoming increasingly worse. She is still currently in a room @ St. Joseph’s, awaiting surgery, which could be as soon as June 13th or 14th.
To help cope with her situation, Heather has named her unwelcomed guest, "Pedro."
Heather was born here in Yuma, Arizona. She spent the majority of her childhood moving around, with her father being active duty in the United States Marine Corps. She returned to Yuma when she was 13 years old. She’s gone on to serve our community through several different law enforcement agencies. First, working for Cocopah Probation Department, from August 1995-July 1996, where she was the sole employee @ this department. After working for Cocopah, Heather went on to join Yuma County Adult Probation, working there from July 1996-May 2005. Currently, Heather is a patrol officer with the Yuma Police Department, where she’s been employed since May 2005.
Unfortunately, due to Heather’s progressing symptoms, she has been unable to work. At this time, we are asking for monetary donations, no matter how big or small. We appreciate any assistance that you are able to provide, while Heather continues to fight this battle.
We will also be keeping you all up to date on her condition.
Thank you
