Charlie Zotigh is going to have the coolest story of how she came into this world. She has two moms, a brother, and a broken heart. And she's not even here. My sister is adopted and has never had a family member that looked like her. When her and wife decided to have baby number two, they decided to harvest my sister's eggs but her wife would carry the child. A child genetically from one mother, nourished and birthed by another. This seemed to be going perfectly until last month. It was discovered that Charlie will be born with a congenital heart defect. She will require open heart surgery before she's 12 weeks old. She will also require additional surgeries as she ages. They have been lucky enough to have the top pediatric cardiothorac surgeon take on their case. It's my sister's intention to take a semester off of school to provide all the care for Charlie. A nanny with the kind of training to help care for a special needs infant would be cost prohibitive. As it is, they will be lacking the student loans and funding they get for my sister being in school. This means they will be short for every living expense. Her wife is the primary breadwinner so it's essential she go back to work as soon as possible.
