Help Gail Recover After Amputation
As the anniversary of her beloved husband’s death, December 7 has always been a difficult date for Gail. This winter was even more tragic for Gail as she began experiencing severe pain in her left arm.
After being rushed to the hospital via ambulance, doctors diagnosed a life-threatening internal infection requiring emergency treatment. Over the next week Gail had multiple surgeries to the left arm in an attempt to control the infection, and suffered a traumatic fall in the hospital. As the infection grew worse Gail was placed on a ventilator and kidney dialysis.
Ultimately, Gail lost her entire left arm to the infection after 11 surgeries in 3 weeks.
With her son & daughter by her side, and her family & friends sending love, Gail was able to be taken off the ventilator and is slowly regaining movement of her remaining limbs. Her strength and bravery has been limitless.
Gail will be in hospital for some time before moving to a rehabilitation centre . Sadly, she will not be able to return to her home of over a decade as it is an unmodifiable rental.
We are asking for donations to help Gail adjust and transition; this will include safe and accessible housing with lift chair, adjustable bed, and other medical devices and necessities not covered by the province. As Gail was using a walker prior to her surgeries, she may require use of a wheelchair or additional assistive devices. All funds will be used towards Gail’s medical needs and expenses.
Gail is a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Her family means everything to her and she considers her close friends to be a part of that family. She loves to scrapbook, sing, and be with her granddaughters and great grandson. She was set to retire and move to Kelowna at the end of 2020 but now won’t see the send off she deserved after years of hard work. Any help towards making her future brighter is deeply appreciated by her loved ones.
Gail is my daughter’s dearest “Nummie,” a nickname for grandma that has stuck for 13 years.
