Our names are Denice Davis and Teresa Webster List and
Debbie Welch Spurlock is a dear friend of ours. You may have known her in high school at Nimitz in Irving or at one of the school districts she has worked for, 8 years at Irving ISD and currently 22 years at Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.
On Christmas Eve of 2015, Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer. If you have a friend or loved one who has heard these words, you know how devastating this kind of news is.
A routine mammogram identified calcifications in the breast tissue that were not normal. Tests determined that Debbie had breast cancer and was also diagnosed as HER2 Positive which means that her cancer was hormone induced and one of the more aggressive breast cancers that there is. Debbie has had three surgeries, endured 6 chemotherapy treatments and will soon begin 30 radiation treatments and then a year of Herceptin treatments to battle the HER2 positive diagnosis. The medical expenses not covered by insurance for treatment are overwhelming and stressful on her and her family.
One of the first things the doctors tell you is that part of the fight includes being non-stressed. Debbie is a fighter! The stress and the breakdown of her body make each treatment a little harder to come back from. We want to help relieve some of that stress by asking for your help. If we can alleviate just a small part of Debbie’s worry then we feel Debbie can fight harder and overcome this horrifying disease.
During this mental, physical and financial stress in Debbie’s life she has already been planning on giving back. She heard about a group that cleans cancer patients houses. Sad to say no one was able to help her out because of the area she lives in. (North, North Fort Worth). It’s Debbie’s intention that once she is well and able she will clean a cancer patient’s house in her area. That is the kind of person she is.
The funds we raise will be used for medical expenses not covered by insurance. Most insurance doesn’t cover much and the ones you can afford have six to seven thousand dollar deductibles.
If you can, please help us help our friend fight this battle. No amount is too small.
We believe in the power of prayer. Pray on friends!!!
Thank you and God Bless.
