Hi everyone, I really hope you are able to help me in fundraising for my sister’s bone marrow transplant.
My sister Elizabeth who is a hard-working 42 year old single mom of 4 beautiful children is now fighting for her life and in need of your help.
Leading up to Labor Day last year (2020) Elizabeth started to feel increasingly more tired and went to her doctor thinking she may need to increase the dosage of her thyroid medication. Her doctor drew the normal labs, but instead of just telling her to increase her meds, he told her she was very sick, needed an emergent blood transfusion and was being referred to a specialist. Next came the visit with the specialist, some more blood tests and then in just a few short days the diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. On top of that she was to get her things in order as she needed to admit to the hospital right away and would likely be there for at least a month. So 2 days after Labor Day she was admitted to UCSF for 33 days. This was just the first of several admissions, throughout the rest of 2020 where she spent more time in the hospital than she did at home.
During those stays she received chemotherapy treatments that wiped out her immune system. While treating my sister in the hospital they also sent out tests to family outside the hospital looking for a match. On the most recent admission on January 9th while getting chemotherapy, they gave her the news that they found a match and plan to do the bone marrow transplant either the end of February or early March 2021.
Here’s where you come in. In order to get the transplant my sister needs to raise enough money to pay to for the salary of a 24-hour caretaker, housing near the hospital, food, for both herself and the 24 hour caretaker for a period of about 3 months post transplant, in addition to any other medical expenses that may arise during this time. Unfortunately since she still must maintain her current living arrangements as well, and not having worked for the last 5 months due to being hospitalized, she just doesn’t have the money for the supportive care she will need post transplant.
I know times are hard for many people right now, especially during this global pandemic, but if you can find it within your heart to make a donation no matter how small, we would be so very thankful. If you are unable to donate please help us by sharing. Thank you so much in advance!
