Christena's New Photo Gear

Christena Dowsett is a photojournalist who documents hope.  Her images tell the story of humananity in east Africa, visually capturing laughter and light to remind us that we are all connected.  She works to reflect the heart of individuals, communities, and organizations bearing both sorrow and strength in their labor for a better tomorrow.

Currently, Christena is working with World Concern, as well as several freelance organisations, to show the life-transforming partnerships they've forged in various towns and villages.  She has a gift.  She sits with people and listens to their stories, and through her camera she brings us into their homes and invites us to participate in this humanity.

The gear Christena is using needs to be replaced.  She has an old camera body, lenses that back-focus, and other gear she's merely making do.  She's skilled at her work, so she presses on with the equipment she has.  With the proper gear, though, Christena will be able to better serve these communities and organizations - telling their stories and allowing us to better know and embrace the people and projects in east Africa.

We're asking for $3,000 for a new camera body and a perhaps a little extra to go toward new lenses.  This stuff is expensive.  However, well-captured stories have a tremendous multiplication factor in the hands of organizations like World Concern, who are carrying hope in many forms to various places across the globe.

Change of plans. Heading back out to the bush next week to keep working on a personal project. All I can hope and pray for at this point is that pictures present themselves in a way that conveys the truth and tragedy of what is happening there. Mostly I just need to believe that at the end of the day, all of this work will change things for them.
