The Ryan Feng Music Scholarship
Donation protected
Ryan Feng was a graduate of the TJHSST Class of 2013. Like many TJ students, Ryan constantly sought to integrate his passion for music into his TJ experience. Dedicating time to the school’s various music ensembles, working with younger students and helping them excel musically, leading his class each year in a musical extravaganza at the homecoming pep rally, and developing an innovative project in the Communications Systems Senior Research Lab to improve the quality of his music production tools are a few ways Ryan brought music to every aspect of his experience at TJ.
After graduating from TJ, Ryan went on to become a student at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts. While many TJ students are gifted musically, Ryan’s courageous decision revealed a strong desire to make music the primary focus of his future career, a choice not commonly made by TJ students graduating from an environment where the majority seek more traditional scholarly pursuits as undergraduates.
Ryan passed away June 08, 2016; his life taken too short by his own hand.
In his memory, the Ryan Feng Music Scholarship will be awarded to a 2016 TJHSST senior who will graduate to study a musically relevant field and most exemplifies Ryan’s dedication to music. With this scholarship, Ryan’s family wishes to encourage other TJ students to venture off the beaten path of TJ graduates, choosing to pursue music or a related subject upon graduating. The Feng Family hopes the scholarship creates more TJ graduates who understand and seek to actively strengthen the compatibility between science and the arts, and through this endeavor keep Ryan Feng’s legacy and passion for music alive in the TJHSST community, where he felt most at home.
Ryan dreamed of growing up and pursuing music in college and his career; thus, we felt that there is no better way to honor Ryan than a scholarship to help another artist fulfill the same dream.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the Ryan Feng Music Scholarship. Checks can be made payable to “Ryan Feng Memorial Fund”.
