Help Rev. Ward Yunker with Coma and Hospital Costs

Pastor Ward Yunker collapsed and was unresponsive on December 27. The underlying cause of the collapse was an extremely high glucose reading due to diabetes and very severe bout of COVID-19. Ward was taken to Mission Hospital in Asheville. At the hospital the doctors discovered the severe COVID-19 was coupled with COVID-19-pneumonia. Since his admittance Ward has been on a ventilator. The medical team is concluding that additional life support is not warranted. However, Ford is fighting for his life and the doctors have begun palliative care. As of January 12th Ward’s parents, Art and Grace reported that there have been no improvement in Ward's condition. Nephrology team is considering dialysis. Still on high setting of ventilator, which isn’t good on the heart. The area pastors, the SouthEastern District, and President John Denninger have been kind and helpful in every possible way! The family is grateful! *A CALL TO ARMS* Ward was a pastor in the Lutheran Church of Canada where he had government health care, but since he came to back to the United States he has no insurance now. As one might expect there will be a substantial financial expense that will have to be paid. I couldn’t imagine fighting for my life in the ICU and in isolation for the possibility of coming out of the coma to find an uninsured financial burden easily in the $100,000 – $250,000 range. This is the reality that ward is facing right now. Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hickory North Carolina is home to Ward and his parents, Arthur and Grace. Their home congregation, and I as their pastor, ask any and all of you to pray for Ward that he makes it through. While the signs aren’t pointing in the way the doctors want we know that the great physician heals and works all things for good.
