My husband John and I have been married for 32 years and have 3 wonderful sons. When he had the opportunity to take a position with the city in February he took it...however, there were some hoops he had to jump through and he was not full time as of the time of his illness. He has no health insurance, this was the first time in the entire 32 years that he did not have coverage. We were already struggling financially, as he had taken a huge pay cut with his new position, but he loves his job. My mother has lived with us for the past 10 years, when she was diagnosed with colon cancer she moved in with us. Two of our sons are still living at home also to save money for their future. We live a simple life, but the doctor bills from this illness will ruin us financially. We are normally a very private family, but for us to survive the stress of the financial burden of his lengthy hospital stay, recovery and physical therapy, I am asking for help.
On Wednesday July 27, 2016 my husband woke me at 6:00 am to tell me he needed to go to the emergency room...at this point I knew how sick he had to be as he NEVER offers to go for medical help. Within a few minutes he was in agony and I called 911. They transported him to KCH and within half an hour they had called for life flight. We have been in ICU at Riverside Hospital now for 16 days.
John has severe acute pancreatitis, he has had complications with his liver, kidneys and heart. On Wednesday they performed an emergency ERCP and removed (4) gallstones that were blocking his lower bile duct. Thursday he felt better, Friday morning when they tried to get him out of bed he had a pulmonary embolism...one large blood clot had went to his right lung. He still has bilateral (2 each) clots in his legs. They rushed him back to surgery and placed an IVC filter to keep the lower clots from heading north. They made the decision to place him on Heparin and give him a clot busting drug. The next day he began bleeding internally, they had to rush him back for a second ERCP to remove the clots that had formed in his bile duct, they placed a stint in the duct to keep it open. He has had a fever since his arrival and they have been unable to isolate the infection, they have given him many different types of antibiotics trying to find one that works. He had a blood transfusion last night and is still in severe pain. Before he leaves the hospital, he will have to have his gallbladder removed...at this point it is to risky. We have a long way to go before he will be back on his feet.
In order to keep our expenses paid and pay doctor bills as they arrive, we are asking for your help.
Thanks for all your prayers and strength during this time of hardship for our family.
Sincerely,
John & Valerie Price
