On January 5th 2021, one loving man's life was forever changed. Around 5:30AM that morning, my father was on his way to work, when he stopped to assist a truck driver with directions. My father's truck was then struck by a motorist on a moped. He then proceeded to exit his vehicle to assist the other motorist. He helped the man to move his moped from the road and to check to see if the man was alright. What happened next, has altered his life in many ways. My father was then struck by a vehicle while outside of his truck, he was crushed and pinned between the cars. The vehicles burst into flames. As far as we know right now, he suffered minor burns, 1 crushed and broken leg, the other leg broken as well. His right leg had to be amputated due to the extent of bone and tissue damage, he also required a blood transfusion due to the large amount of blood loss. He was transported by EMS to a local hospital. However, due to his life-threatening injuries, was then airlifted to a higher level medical facility. He is now unable to work and was the breadwinner for the family. He will require a hospital stay, continued medical care, extensive physical therapy, medical devices and supplies, a wheelchair accessible vehicle, several home modifications and the list goes on. I am writing this after his 2nd day of being admitted to the hospital. He is a good man; kind-hearted, helpful, loving and hard-working. He has worked in the manual labor field since he was a teenager. He has a high school level education, is over 50 years old and currently has no source of income due to him now being labeled as a person that is disabled. Needless to say, my family is in need. He will need constant care. We are forever grateful to all who helped and who can help in any way. As of 1/6/21 the driver of the vehicle that hit him has not been identified. If anyone has any information in regards to the accident or driver of the red Honda SUV please contact me via Facebook under Marisa Cross or on this go fund me page. Update: information has been received from a person on the scene. A white 2000 year range model Honda Accord was seen driving at an accelerated speed through the scene of the accident and possibly picked up the driver of the red Honda SUV who left the scene without being identified. We have video of the vehicle. Below you will find his truck and the SUV that hit him. It is in the Salisbury, NC post, article dated 1/5/21https://m.salisburypost.com/2021/01/05/one-airlifted-from-scene-of-sherrills-ford-road-crash-with-life-threatening-injuries/?utm_source=site&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=recirculation
