Naomi's Wheelchair Adapted Swing
Donation protected
Naomi is an amazing little girl whom I first met in 2010 when our girls started going to nursery with her. Now aged 7, she faces more challenges during each day of her life than many of us experience in a lifetime. Sadly Naomi was born with a rare gene defect and as a result is partially sighted, unable to eat or talk and has no mobility. She requires 24 hour care and help with all aspects of her life. She is tube fed for 18 hours a day and has numerous admissions to hospital and appointments.
However, in spite of this, Naomi has the most fabulous smile that will light up your day. Although she can't speak she is very vocal and has the most infectious giggle. She loves being taken out and about in her wheelchair.
Equally as remarkable are Naomi's parents. They are lovely selfless people who are kind and never complain about the difficulties they face. They provide Naomi with a loving and fulfilling life. However, as Naomi is growing up they find it increasingly difficult to lift and manoeuvre her. Having a wheelchair adapted swing in their garden would mke it possible for them to enjoy being outdoors without having to lift Naomi. It would also enable Naomi to play and enjoy this freedom.
The benefits of swinging include helping to develop gross motor skils including balance and co-ordination, as well as fine motor skills such as gripping. Additionally it helps children to develop their imaginations and plays an important role in their mental and physical development. Whilst all of these positive factors make a swing appealing, the cost (£700), is unfortunately prohibitive for Naomi's parents.
In just over 2 weeks time I will be competing in an Ironman race in Austria. To complete the 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42km run will be a challenge for me. For this reason I would like to ask you to sponsor my effort to help lessen one of the challenges in Naomi's family's life by rising money for a wheelchair adapted swing. Every penny counts so even if you can only spare a small amount that would be so much appreciated and will help put a big smile on Naomi's face. It would also make a significant difference to the lives of Naomi's parents. Thank you in advance if you are able to contribute.
