Hello, my name is Jacqueline Sison and I am a full time college student who works 2 jobs roughly 45 hours a week during school. I became the main supporter of my mother, 15 year old brother, and I when my mother was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia Lymphoma Cancer a year and four months ago. After being in remission for about 6 months, she contracted a severe infection called Cytomegalovirus Retinitis due to her weakened immune system. This affects her vision and inhibits her to see clearly and therefore, cannot work. She has been in the hospital for a week from today.
We are expected to move out of our current house as soon as possible (we probably have to the end of July), but unfortunately, it has been difficult finding a place to stay that is affordable with my income. With my federal work study ending for the summer, I do not have the availability to obtain another job along with my receptionist position at a clinical psychology practice because of a great opportunity at an unpaid externship for a clinical psychology that will help me secure a career in the future. As you can see, this makes it difficult to find enough hours in a week to fully support my family and plan for our future.
With thorough research, apartments located in Fairfax, Falls Church, Arlington, and Alexandria or even the basement units found on Craiglist, the average rent is from $1300 - $1400 a month. This range includes 2 bedrooms and one bathroom. Therefore, I'm only asking for 3 months worth of rent to obtain and settle in a home where I can also maintain my other bills including car insurance and its payment, phone bills, credit cards, gas, groceries, and toiletries.
Any contribution to my family will be and already is greatly appreciated. If we can feel secure in a place to live, we can do our best to help our mother recover her health so she can work regularly again. Then my brother and I can focus on doing our best in attending school where our careers aspire to give back to the community.
