Alan Aguiar's Lung Cancer Fund

It was only a few weeks ago, May 21, 2016, that we learned our dad, at the age of 60, was diagnosed with stage 3A squamous cell lung cancer (non-small cell). Back in February 2016, Alan was having trouble breathing and displayed flu-like symptoms. He was told by his PCP that he had the flu and was prescribed steroids to treat this. His symptoms started to dissipate and came back weeks later along with severe pain in his neck. He went for a chest X-ray and was sent to get a cat scan after discovering two spots. On his way home from getting a cat scan of his chest he received a call advising him to go to the hospital immediately. It was then that the full extent of his condition was discovered. We were told that he has two masses, one is almost 8 cm and the other is 4cm, and that the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes in his chest. Surgery is not an option. He is currently being treated with radiation 5 days a week and Chemo 1 day a week and is handling it like a champ. We lost our nana (Alan’s mother) last year to this same cancer. It is an emotionally difficult time as well as financially straining for him. Alan is unable work due to this disease and we all know how expensive co-pays and uncovered medical expenses can be. His biggest worry is losing his home. Cancer feeds on stress so his constant worrying is not good for him. Our dad is always willing to help others and will never ask for anything in return so we would like to do something for him for a change. To help put his mind at ease and make things easier for him; we decided to start this fund. We can’t fight the cancer for Alan, but we can help alleviate some of the financial burden.
