Fire destroyed our home. Please help us start over
Friends and loved ones,
Most of you know that we, Hannah and August have lost our home in the magical, enchanted redwood forest of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The voracious hunger of the CZU Lightning Fire consumed and destroyed it, with the contents, entirely.
We are grateful that our bodies were not harmed, and that we are able to continue to participate in this gift of life.
We are moving through waves of grief, shock, denial and despair, and overwhelm. It’s unfathomable to have lost so
much in a single event, while also watching much of our beloved community turn to ash.
Never having experienced something like this, we don’t know how long it will take to recover, or what it will look like. We have been displaced and are among the many “fire refugees” looking to rebuild from the ground up.
While we did have renter’s insurance, we are learning now that it will cover only about 1/3 of what we lost.
We have been humbled and deeply moved by those who wish to offer us every kind of support, including housing, meals, emotional, and financial.
This is a HUGE exercise for us, as we are both very private and self-reliant people, and not in the practice of asking for help!
And, in our current state of overwhelm and shock, when asked what we need, we don’t know how to answer. For those wishing to offer cash donations, we determined it is easiest to create this GoFundMe as a way to direct help to us so that we can have resources to use as we focus on taking the actions we need to take to begin to rebuild the foundation for our lives.
Bless your dear hearts for your generosity and may it return to you a thousand fold or more! And please know that your prayerful, loving, visionary, and energetic contributions are equally as valuable to us as are financial contributions to our fund.
With Love and Gratitude,
Hannah and August
