1/20 update
Mookie and I were recovering together at home for the last 3 weeks until recently, he started to show symptoms of an infection. We took an emergency trip to the ER vet tonight to be safe and discovered he indeed has a raging infection in his armpit wound. He is staying the night back at the hospital on antibiotics and pain medicine, awaiting surgery #3 tomorrow. The vet explained that the area under his armpit opened after the removal of his stitches. (which is common in such a high friction area) But this means the surgeon has to go in and clear the wound again to hopefully remove the infection for good this time. I am still not back to work due to gyms being closed under covid restrictions in Boston. Tonight’s development means a minimum of another $2,200 for his surgery tomorrow. I really appreciate all of the generous donations we have received so far, it has truly gotten me and Mookie through a really rough few weeks. So close to having the Mookie I remember back in my life HEALTHY.
Story:
Mookie is my 6 year old rescue and he went missing on 9/1/2020 when my landlord left my new apartment open. I had basically given up hope when I got a call that someone found him a mile away! She found him in the stair case at the back of her apartment building meowing for help.
Mookie’s collar was wrapped around his head and left arm. The collar had contact info to reunite us but it left a really bad wound on his neck/armpit. When I got there he looked like he had been able to care for himself surprisingly well, he hadn’t lost much weight he was just very scared until he realized it was me.
The wound from the collar did not look good so I immediately took him to the emergency vet clinic. They found a fever of about 104°, and signs of a widespread infection. The wound has a lot of infected tissue that needs to be cleared and they can’t tell how deep it goes. The position of the wound puts his left front leg at risk, so the best possible chance to save his leg is doing the surgery tomorrow first thing after a course of antibiotics overnight.
The clinic quoted care for Mookie between $2,200 and $3,000 depending what they find once they get in there.
I had a roller coaster 2020 like most people. As a Fitness Manager at Boston Sports Clubs the impact on the fitness industry has hit me hard. Boston gyms were ordered to close again on 12/16/2020 and I was basically laid off. With a lot of uncertainty in my career I can’t afford this right now, so I am looking for help.
Please consider helping me pay for this unexpected miracle, anything is appreciated.
Update:
The vet called this morning (1/2/21), he’s doing well in surgery but they have to do a partial close of the wound because there’s so much compromised tissue in the area. I get to take him home this afternoon but I have to bring him back on Monday for another follow up surgery to finishing closing it. (Another $1,500-1,700)
