Wanderlust Circus Had a Crazy Spring
Seriously. We've been producing big, brilliant circus shows since 2006; traveling to the West Coast's finest historic theaters, and freakiest outdoor festivals. We do the annual White Album Christmas and Circus Carol shows; produce new material every year with incredible bands like 3 Leg Torso, MarchFourth, and Vagabond Opera; and turn heads from Oregon Country Fair to Electric Daisy Carnival. West of the Rockies, we've done it all! But we've never made it any further East, and we've never put on a crowdfunding campaign.
Now we've been invited to represent our fair city at a big travel event in New Orleans, our #1 bucket list tour destination. We've just got to figure out some way to get there. A few important things went wrong this Spring, and now we're scraping up funds to put the plan back together. With a little hand from you, we'll stay on target, and reach the Crescent City as spangled bohemian ambassadors of the Great Northwest.
The Budget
It's pretty straightforward. We need to get a bunch of big, heavy stuff to New Orleans in a van; and get 9 people there too. It comes down to two categories of expense:
THE WANDERBUS: Roughly $2000 to fill our big van full of musical instruments, aerial apparatus, costumes, stilts, juggling implements, balancing canes, and cinderblocks for Tera to destroy with her bare hands; plus five full-sized adults; and drive the works on a two-week, 6,000-mile round trip. This includes a modest cushion for Wear & Tear, since some crucial thing is almost guaranteed to explode and need fixing during this trip. It's the way of the Road.
PLANE TICKETS: Instead of sending another vehicle out, we're flying four lucky circus artists in for the weekend. Total cost, around $2000. We'll miss them on our big trip, but since the cost is around the same, why make them suffer needlessly?
LODGING: We've got a hotel provided for us one or two nights in New Orleans, and we're staying with friends the rest of our time on the road in order to conserve money. Cost - FREE!
Other things we're not asking you to pay for include: Stipends for the performers, food and beverages, make-up and supplies, etc. We've got all of that covered. It's just this matter of the travel that has us unexpectedly flummoxed.
That's why we've set up some real nice perks that you folks can receive in exchange for donating. You can get tickets to our shows and workshops in New Orleans and Portland, from single $15-20 tickets to a year-long pass for $100; or, for those of you with the means and the desire - an actual Lifetime Pass to every show produced by Wanderlust Circus, for $1000.
If we don't make our goal, we'll go to New Orleans anyway. We'll figure something out, you know? We're crazy circus people, and seasoned travelers, and there's always a way. But it could get pretty desperate out there.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you love the circus, and you want to help build a bridge between these two fine cities; but you're not able to donate at the moment; there's still one thing you can do to help us out!
SHARE this campaign directly to your Facebook, Twitter, email list, Instagram, or any other place that will help us reach more like-minded people. It's got to happen fast - we're hitting the road on June 13th! Help us, cousins!
