Simon and Francine are battling the most challenging of foes. Glioblastoma is a tragic diagnosis. Glioblastomas are aggressive tumors with grim statistics. In Simon's case, it is a butterfly shape, deep in his brain - in the corpus callosum, spanning across hemispheres. It is inoperable. The tumor and associated inflammation affects the frontal lobe. The frontal lobe is responsible for higher cognitive functions such as memory, emotions, impulse control, problem solving, social interaction, and motor function.
Simon and Francine need our love and help, and will need more as time goes on. In the short time since his diagnosis, just before Thanksgiving, Simon has continued to lose functions associated with his frontal lobe. He cannot be left alone and requires full time care, as well as everything from a hospital bed at home, to transportation to and from treatments, to meals to satisfy Simon's - thankfully - still robust appetite.
I told Francine that setting up this site on their behalf would provide friends and family an opportunity to do what is possible to help in this most trying of times.
