Laying Mom to Rest

"There's a loneliness that only exists in one's mind. The loneliest moment in someone's life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly." -- The Great Gatsby

The world as I knew it fell apart on November 30th, 2019.  I was notified by a doctor that my mother had been in a car accident, and I needed to get to the hospital ASAP. Upon arriving, I received the bombshell that no daughter ever wants to receive: Mom was gone. Her car had been found against a guardrail with minimal damages, but she had been non-responsive and could not be revived. Although I am awaiting the results of her autopsy for a positive cause of death, I suspect she had suffered a massive heart attack while en route to pick me up from work that night and had lost consciousness while driving. I do praise God that no one else was involved in the accident, but the sudden loss of her has been devastating. She was the last of my immediate family.  She had fought to overcome so many different health issues through the years, and had finally been stable for the last couple of years. And although we often lived paycheck to paycheck, stretching our combined income to the fullest extent, she never hesitated to give to someone else in need. She never hesitated to offer an encouraging word or listening ear. Never shied away from living out the Christian faith that was so near and dear to her heart, ever since she went forward at a Billy Graham crusade in '69.  She raised me as a single mother, with the help of my grandmother and aunt (who died in 2010 and 2011 respectively), but did her absolute best to make sure I never wanted for the things that truly mattered in life.

Her last words to me had been "I'll see you later." I thought I would have so much more time with her. That she would live to see me become a published writer, maybe someday get married and start a family of my own.  But instead, I'll be doing my best to give her the goodbye that she deserves and would have wanted.

The funds raised will be going toward laying her to her final rest.  I've never been one to ask for help, but I will to do this for her. Please.

If you can't give, please say a quick prayer. Those are just as appreciated during this difficult time.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
