I do not even know where to start.....
History:
When he was 1 1/2 he was constantly sick, atleast monthly fevers of 105, no energy, would just lay on floor curled up in a ball, high white blood cell count, low immune system (catches everything possible) and never a diagnosis.....he was seen as DHMC, FA, and Boston between ages of 1-3, no one could figure out what was wrong, every test came back negative.
AGE 3:
Carter stopped having the high fever episodes, etc. (YAY) However at this time he started gaining weight, in less then a year he gained 55 pounds. and continues to gain. He was diagnosed a few months ago at DHMC with liver disease and fibrosis of the liver. They referred us to BCH. Liver Disease specialist at boston advised he has never seen liver disease as bad as Carter has, esp in a five year old. He is now being seen by Genetics, Metabolism and Endocrine at Boston. They are testing for diseases and or syndromes that can cause rapid weight gain and other symptoms that he has. (things such as Cushings and ROHHAD). He needs to have the genetic testing done to see if there is a genetic piece missing or off balance that is causing these issues.
GOAL:
The main goal right now is to find out what is causing the weight gain, low immune system, etc in order to stop the fibrosis in his liver as well as lesson the fatty deposits in his liver causing the Liver Disease.
Vermont Medicaid has DENIED the testing. We need to help this young man and his wonderful Mom.
