Schromen vs. Cancer

I am creating this “Go Fund Me” on behalf of my son Ryan Schromen. Ryan has been dealing with chronic stomach issues since the age of nine. He is now twenty eight years old. This has become a way of life for Ryan, chronic pain and numerous hospitalizations. On June 18th Ryan went to the emergency room with complaints of severe abdominal pain and nausea. He was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics (UIHC). On May 20th Ryan had an endoscopy which showed a mass in his abdomen. The mass was biopsied. On May 24th Ryan was diagnosed with Gastric Adenocarcinoma.

Our family hopes that you never have to experience something like this. That you never have to look at a doctor’s face and know from that look that no level of medical training has prepared them for what they are about to say.

Ryan has met with his oncologist and the plan is 3 months of chemo, then surgery followed by 3 more months of chemo. As of now he has 8 appointments set up in Iowa City.

Our goal is to try and cover expenses for gas, food, hotels, parking ramp expenses, co-pays on medications and any medical expenses that are not covered by his insurance. Also Ryan is now no longer able to work so he is going to have issues keeping up with his bills. The next 8 months are going to be a very tough and stressful time for him. With this new diagnosis of Gastric Adenocarcinoma (gastric cancer) this is too much to bear.

We have been touched by the emotional support Ryan and our family has already received. Please donate if you can. Our wish is that 5 years from now that Ryan is cancer free and can thank each and every one who donated in person. Please keep Ryan and our family in your thoughts and prayers.
