RED DAY: Holtz Children's Hospital

Donation protected

Introduced in 2009, RED Day, which stands for Renew, Energize and Donate, is Keller Williams Realty's annual day of service. Each year on the second Thursday of May, associates spend the day away from their businesses serving worthy organizations and causes in their communities. RED Day is just another example of our commitment to each other and to the cities and towns where we live and work. Join us

This year, the Keller Williams Coral Gables Coconut Grove office chose to dedicate this day to Jackson Memorial's Holtz Children's hospital as agents will be spending time and playing with the children there. The two specific causes we will be raising money for are:

-SIDS: Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Annually there area pproximately 4,500 babies who die unexpectedly in their sleep from accidental suffocation, strangulation, and SIDS, making it the third leading cause of all infant mortality in the U.S. It has been concluded that in 90% of these deaths, the infant is found in an unsafe sleep environment. Many of these accidents are preventable and were caused by environmental risk factors. Holtz Childen's & The Women's Hospital at Jackson is applying to become the first hospiital in Florida to gain the National Safe Sleep Certification. The Gold Level requires them to:-Develop and maintain a Safe Sleep Policy-Provide staff working on the units serving infants and children under the age of 1 with training on infant safe sleep-Provide infant safe sleep education to the parents of infants prior to discharge-Make use of wearable blankets in the Well-Baby Nursery and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
-AUDIT - Record your progress and report your successes with the use of our PDSA tool
-Conduct outreach activities related to infant safe sleep
-Affiliate with or become a Cribs for Kids Partner

2) The Pallative Care Unit

The pallative care team at Holtz Children's Hospital is called Pedi Pals and includes doctors, nurse coordinators, child life specialists, music therapists, psychologists, social workers, and members of our pastoral services.

The PediPals team strives to provide teh highest level of care for both the child and his/her family. The team works with the entire family to educate, support and comfort throughout the disease process with age - and disease specific activities and resources.

Every kid who passes through Holtz Children's Hospital has a continuous caring relationship with our team, with access to a system-wide physician network. PediPals is one of our many family-centered resources available for our Holtz Children's patients and families.

Pallative care is a special type of medical care different from hospice services.

PediPals provides pallative services that extend throughout the entirety of the disease or illness, while hospice usually focuses on providing comfort only at the end of the life.
